American Legion Post 75 Members and Internet based Readers,

Subject to approval, I have plans afoot to move all American Legion activity to www.AmericanLegion.ca where the tradional image of the American Legion can be best preserved as the Legion exists in Canada today.

I also think that this would present a more independent image from that of the ¨Mongol Horde¨ known as the Vietnam Veterans In Canada.  And an independent image is important.  Presently, given its location under the VVIC banner it kind of looks like our beloved post is some kind of bastard child of the Mongol Horde.  My Lord Martha, we can´t have that - even if there are grains of truth in it.

Furthermore, the VVIC only accepts members who have been awarded the Vietnam Service Medal regardless of the type of discharge whereas the Legion accepts only honorably discharged Veterans from all recognized U.S. wars, police actions and other long term disturbances.

Allow me to summarize the reasons I think the post website should be at AmericanLegion.CA

1.    AmericanLegion.CA would provide a more tradional Image of the Legion
2.    AmericanLegion.ca is a site which shows far more independence than the present location of the legion site.
3.    The Legion is open to a wider range of Veterans whereas the VVIC has a very restrictive  membership.

Once this idea has been considered  (shot at, bitch slapped, nit-picked, pissed on) and perhaps approved the Legion Post will have its own digital home.

Once the Post has its own digital home certain things can be added to the site.  One of those things should be the history

We should create an extensive and accurate history of the American Legion in Canada within the structure of www.AmericanLegion.ca  in conjunction with whatever the site should look like and be as decided by the post.

This is likely to take awhile though, depending on the level of help received from those people still living who have knowledge of the history of the Department of Canada and Ireland of the American Legion.

Of course, the Department of Canada and Ireland was choked to death by National some years back (Exact date to be here) and its few remaining posts attached to the states nearest their location.  Our post went to the Department of Washington.

But there is a history there that should be told.  And there are at least several individuals whose service to the American Legion through the now deceased Department of Canada and Ireland should be recognized for their service and sacrifice.

We will be needing some help on this from all those with knowledge of the history of the Legion in Canada.

In my own opinion our Post 75´s very namesake - SSGT Theodore Snow, USAF - would make a great Project Director for sketching out and overseeing the assembly of the history of the Department of Canada and Ireland.  Not only is he older than Moses, but he has been around many years in the Department - occupying many posts over including Department Commander.   SSGT Snow knows the old players which I would think is fundamental to devoloping a history of the Department.

Then of course, the VVIC´s 2nd Vice President Ron Mella is also a Past Department Commander of the Department of Canada and Ireland as well and certainly knows where some of the bodies are buried...., er, ah.... historical facts are to be found.

Me thinks we ought to get this thing done while we are still above the ground.  And since most things that hit the Internet live forever we should insure the history we present is an accurate history refecting the struggle, glory and general existence of this unique unit in the history of the American Legion.

Finally Brethren, need Uncle Woody remind you all that here in 2011, our twilight years, we as Veterans find ourselves in an age where the very benefits we have long taken for granted are in danger of serious cutbacks.  And why is that?  It is because the men and women of both of the main political parties of the United States have catered to interests other than the interests of the people of the United States.

All this means that we, as a Veterans group, should be doing something other than just waiting to die.
