Unit ProfileOur Voting Membership is made up exclusively of Military Veterans of Vietnam War who fought under the command of MACV (Military Assistance Command Vietnam) during the period sometimes known as the Second Indochina War. which concluded in 1975. Members of the Armed Forces of Australia, New Zealand, South Korea, Thailand and the United States are eligible to request consideration for membership. In order to be accepted for Voting Membership the military credentials of the individual must be placed on file with the Society. These credentials must indicate the award of the Vietnam Service Medal or the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Vietnam) or Allied equivalent. There are no exceptions to this rule. The VVIC is an independent democratic organization. We answer only to one another. We expect the same level of honesty and trust among each other as was expected on the battlefield. Our willingness to reach out to other Veterans and their Family members is great. But our tolerance for bullshit is low. Eighteen years of "outreach" have taught us many lessons. Too many of those lessons were painful. We mention this only to let you know that we will go to great lengths to validate information. That is good if you are the real thing. Not so good if you are not. We welcome and need new blood. After all, the world isn't creating any more real Vietnam Veterans. Unlike some other groups, we will never dilute our voting membership by accepting into our ranks and our decision making process anyone other than a Vietnam Veteran. Never. If you are a Vietnam Veteran living in Canada, or outside the continental United States, we invite you to contact us. Perhaps you might join us. We'll do our best to point you in the right direction. Money never has been an important aspect of becoming a member, so if you are unemployed we will waive the dues. Of course, we would expect that your paperwork would be in order. If you don't have it, we can get it for you. To the Press we will certify that any Member of this organization is the real thing, complete with documentation of their military service. We maintain a list of those Veterans who are available for interviews concerning the Vietnam War. We ask that you take care in who you interview. Don't be shy. Ask for their paperwork. History demands it. Those who died in Vietnam, on both sides, are owed the truth. Please take the time to be sure before you print or air anything. Who makes up the VVIC? We have Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine and Coast Guard Vets in our ranks. There is a strong Infantry presence here. Marine Grunts. Army Grunts. Army Rangers. Special Forces. A Navy Seal. Crew Chiefs. Corpsman. Army Spooks. Pilots. Military Police. Cannon Cockers. Cooks. Clerks. Medics. Morgue Technicians. Food Inspection Specialists. Shit Burners. Electronics specialists. Most everyone. All Vets. More than a few of our members hold Valour decorations. In the here and now our members are Executives, Businessmen, Corporate Pilots, Law Enforcement people, Fugitives, Doctors, Carpenters, One Percenters, Recluses, Ministers, and others including the unemployed and the under employed and as the years go by, the Retired. Many live with service connected disabilities. They all served. And all have a voice. To Vietnam Veterans we say: "Join us". We care only that you served and were awarded the Vietnam Service Medal (or Allied equivalent) or the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Come in from the cold. It's time. We welcome all who served in Vietnam. If you can manage to not shit on the carpet or otherwise make an effort to alienate the membership - just make an effort - we will have no problem with who you presently are or your circumstances. Further, being that a real Vietnam Veteran isn't getting any younger we would ask that you consider the fact that there is a group representing your interests and consider participating in it to further not just just our common Veteran interests, but the interests of the women and men serving in harm's way today. To you Vets out there who are doing just fine, nary a problem, we would ask that you give special consideration to lending your talents and your time to a group dedicated to all things Veteran. W.
